This Job Description defines minimum standards of performance and skills required to function as an Area Manager. In addition to these minimum standards, each Area Manager must be willing to identify and perform task which contribute to the Team above and beyond the minimum standards of performance.

This position is also accountable for overseeing the operation of a group of Rental Stores(typically 5 to 7 stores) to attain objectives in revenue growth, employee development, delinquency rate, customer service and overall profitability. The Area Manager directs a group of Store Managers to ensures that each store operates within the policies and procedures established by the company. The Area Manager must seize every opportunity to improve revenue and control the cost of operations. The overall continuing challenge of the Area Manager is to raise the interest and awareness of the factors that cause a store to be successful and secondly to ensure that this knowledge is applied to the daily operations of each store.

The Area Manager is evaluated and held accountable for performance expectations as agreed upon and documented in their specific Performance Evaluation Form "KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES".


  • At least three years experience as a highly successful Store Manager.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Ability to handle a large number of administrative duties.
  • Good communication skills -verbal, presentation, and writing, ability to work effectively with both employees and managers.
  • Ability to convey a positive and professional image to customers and employees.
  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Able to properly lift and repetitively maneuver all store products and equipment including but not limited to household furniture, appliances and electronics by using proper safe lifting techniques.
  • Valid state motor vehicle operator's license with evidence of insurability within the guidelines of the insurer.
  • Ability to translate profitability to day to day store operations.
  • Ability to manage customers: products and financial situations in a profitable manner.


  • Spends 70 to 80 percent of the time in the field working with Store Managers and their subordinates on store operations, helping identify opportunities and recommending enhancements.
  • Accountable for reviewing and approving all personnel actions that impact store employees below the level of Store Manager. Any personnel change that impacts the Store Manager directly must be approved by and submitted to senior management for their approval.
  • To ensure proper inventory mix, the Area Manager can move product form store to store within limits established by senior management.
  • Within limits, make price adjustments to dispose of hard to move products.
  • Responsible for ensuring that: special displays, advertising, and other promotions are flawlessly executed at the store level.
  • Participates with management in the development of goals and budgets for the district and will review the progress of the district against those plans throughout the year.
  • Accountable for providing market by market input (competitive assessments, market dynamics) to assist senior management in their planning process.
  • Maintains constant awareness of potential new store locations within the district and coordinates with senior management to select new sites and get new stores open.


  • Attend monthly management team meetings.
  • Attend recommended team training seminars.
  • Requires driving from store to store in district and some overnight travel.
  • Provide company based training to new or reassigned employees.
  • Share ideas with Area Manager peers.
